Artist's Description

A 2016 view of the Halemaumau crater from a helicopter looking nearly straight down into the crater. A little hard to make out at first. The lava is dark black with a small orange glow along the edges on the left side of the image. The plume of smoke rises from the lava and over the crater wall, over the closed parking lot and barren landscape.

Since the latest Puna eruption the lava has disappeared leaving an enormous crater. The parking lot just under the smoke plume has fallen into the empty crater along with a lot of the crater wall.

Art has always been a huge part of my life. Anything creative I will dive in and get lost especially if it is a collaboration piece, but photography is my main creative outlet. I love photography and the raw instant capture of a scene into art. It is complicated and is littered with so many variables and options. I have been studying photography for nearly 20 years and still continue to learn. Please...
