Artist's Description
The surf was fairly large this day where I couldn't stand in my typical spot looking through the large blow hole on the reef like in Fiery Sunset. This forced me to scout out a new location to compose for the sunset which led me to setup looking south, down this crack in the lava rock where the water would find its way. Not a very comfortable spot. I was straddling the river of water at about 2 feet off of the ground while hunching over to focus and setup.
The excitement came when the sun began to light up the side of the rock face to the left as well as Mauna Loa in the far distance with some warm hues. Then timing the waves just right to get them crashing, flowing through the crack, and falling into the blow hole was the next challenge which all came together very nicely.

About Christopher Johnson
Thank you so much for taking time to visit my photography collection. Most of my work is of the amazing landscape and surrounding nature of the Big Island of Hawaii. Occasionally I will have the opportunity to venture and explore the neighboring islands or the mainland when I visit friends and family to diversify my collection of work. Art has always been a huge part of my life. Anything creative I will dive in and get lost especially if it is a collaboration piece, but photography is my main creative outlet. I love photography and the raw instant capture of a scene into art. It is complicated and is littered with so many variables and options. I have been studying photography for nearly 20 years and still continue to learn. Please...
