Boulder Beach Kids T-Shirt

I made the long trek along the rugged coastline near the Kona airport to photograph one of the manta ray dive sites at night. There are a bunch of boats that arrive near sunset and stay well into the night to watch the manta feed. I thought it would be cool to capture the lights and action of this popular spot, but what I didn't count on was the high surf. Because of the large waves all of the activity was further away from the shoreline, so my plan was not going to work.

Fortunately while I was waiting for sunset standing on a 30 foot cliff there was a small beach like area covered in very large boulders near by. With the force of every wave that came in rolled these large rocks up and down the beach which I could hear dull pounding and scraping as they found places to settle. It's very calming.

I used a 300mm telephoto lens to crop a section of the beach with a slow shutter to capture the action of water in a silky flow while picking up the color of the sunset.

Thank you so much for taking time to visit my photography collection. Most of my work is of the amazing landscape and surrounding nature of the Big Island of Hawaii. Occasionally I will have the opportunity to venture and explore the neighboring islands or the mainland when I visit friends and family to diversify my collection of work.
